Dear John,
In 2022, we find ourselves back at the State Board of Education (SBOE) as they prepare to make revisions to what is taught, and what isn’t taught, in social studies classes at Texas public schools.
The last revisions in 2010 were dominated by whitewashing and politicization from the religious right. We must take action [[link removed]] to stop history from repeating itself at the SBOE!
Join us for Part One of our #TeachTheTruth Learning Series: TX SBOE 101 [[link removed]] to learn how to get involved in our fight against educational censorship.

In the past year, we’ve seen the right’s crusade to censor what’s taught in our schools on a national level, with Texas taking centerstage. These attacks on public education have included banning books that reflect the experiences of LGBTQIA+ people, women, and communities of color. It’s up to all of us to ensure our public schools are environments where all children feel accepted, represented, and free to receive an accurate, honest, quality education.
Will you join our movement? Mark your calendars for Wednesday, [[link removed]] [[link removed]] June 15th at 6:30 pm CST/7:30 pm CST [[link removed]] , for Part One of our #TeachTheTruth Learning Series: TX SBOE 101.
What to expect:
During this action session, you’ll hear from TFN organizers about the SBOE as they talk about what the SBOE is, why the SBOE is so important, and how we can build power to ensure our communities promote an inclusive learning environment.
Then, we’ll move to action! You’ll learn about writing a Letter to the Editor (LTE) to draw attention to this issue, and how by writing LTEs, we can shift the public narrative and bring more community members to this fight.
The ongoing attack on public education needs your activism . RSVP now! [[link removed]]
We hope to see you there!
Thank you,
