This Wednesday at NOON
Central Oklahoma Home Builders
|
|
Fifty years ago on June 25, 1962, the U.S. Supreme Court declared school-sponsored prayers to be unconstitutional in the landmark case Engel v. Vitale. Public outrage was immediate and widespread.
America’s highest court had
kicked God out of school.
School discipline and academic achievement has since been on a path of rapid descent, plunging our schools into tragedy and chaos. No more tragic than the recent mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.
In 2015, Bremerton High School, located in the state of Washington, fired football Coach Joe Washington for his routine of praying on the football field after games.
Oklahoma Attorney, A.J. Ferate was a student at Bremerton Highschool and played on the Bremerton football team. Because of his relationship with the school, he joined the legal team assembled to defend coach Kennedy against the actions of Bremerton High School.
The case has now been argued before the
U.S. Supreme Court and we await the verdict.
On Wednesday, June 8, attorney A.J. Ferate will be at OCPAC to tell the story of how the case has moved through the courts. You won’t want to miss this story of Christianity on trial in the United States.

Scott Pruitt is running for the Senate to fight for Oklahomans and restore American greatness. As a member of President Trump’s Cabinet, Pruitt led the President’s fight to make America energy independent and un-do the over-reach of the Obama Administration.
As head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Pruitt repealed Obama’s so-called Clean Power Plan, and Waters of the United States Rule.
Pruitt and President Trump pulled the United States out of the disastrous Paris Climate Accords, saving Oklahoma’s economy from the dangerous excesses of European bureaucrats.
|
|
Under Pruitt’s leadership, EPA issued more deregulatory actions than any other federal agency in the first year of the Trump presidency. Pruitt spearheaded more than two dozen regulatory reforms and returned the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to its original mission. Pruitt reformed EPA's scientific advisory boards to ensure geographic diversity and integrity, ended the agency's 'Sue and Settle' practices.
Prior to leading the EPA, Pruitt served as Attorney General of Oklahoma, where he led the fight against the Obama Administration’s attempts to usurp state sovereignty.
His leadership as head of the EPA in Washington meant important reductions in the agency's capacity to strangle business performance.
Hear him discuss his days in Washington serving
President Trump, the EPA, and America's best interests.

BOB LINN
Prayer and Political Fate of America
|
Last week, Bill Federer wrote about the political fate of prayer in America and noted the cultural impact of the 1962 Supreme Court decision to ban it in public schools.
He notes that for nearly two centuries, prayer was considered part of religious freedom.
The 1962 Supreme Court decision to ban it in public schools changed that.
The following represents portions of his article edited for OCPAC.
William Jennings Bryan was the Democrat Party’s Presidential candidate in 1896, 1900, and 1908. On September 7, 1913, he wrote:
|
A religion which teaches personal responsibility to God gives strength to morality.
There is a powerful restraining influence in the belief that an all-seeing eye scrutinizes every thought and word and act of the individual.
In a little over 50 years after prayer was taken out of schools, problems have gone from chewing gum and running in the hallways to drugs, fighting, robbery, vandalism, assault, rape, suicide, murder, and school shootings.
Equally as deadly to a nation is the culturally pernicious cloaking of the curriculum with the transgender agenda. The installation of the ubiquitous shroud of transgender ideology in America’s schools has severed the last ties to Biblical morality.
Two days after Hugo Black's decision to stop school prayer, Senator Robert Byrd addressed Congress, June 27, 1962:
"Inasmuch as our greatest leaders have shown no doubt about God's proper place in the American birthright, can we, in our day, dare do less? ...
|
In no other place in the United States are there so many, and such varied official evidences of deep and abiding faith in God on the part of Government as there are in Washington."
"Inside the rotunda is a picture of the Pilgrims about to embark from Holland on the sister ship of the Mayflower, the Speedwell.
|
... The ship's revered chaplain, Brewster, who later joined the Mayflower, has open on his lap the Bible.
Very clear are the words, 'the New Testament according to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.'
... On the sail is the motto of the Pilgrims, 'In God We Trust, God With Us.'"
|
Senator Byrd added:
"Every session of the House and the Senate begins with prayer. Each house has its own chaplain ...
... The phrase, 'In God We Trust,' appears opposite the President of the Senate, who is the Vice-President of the United States.
... The same phrase, in large words inscribed in the marble, backdrops the Speaker of the House of Representatives ...
... Above the head of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court are the Ten Commandments, with the great American eagle protecting them.
Senator Robert Byrd concluded:
"On the south banks of Washington's Tidal Basin, Thomas Jefferson still speaks:
'God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God?
|
Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that his justice cannot sleep forever.'
Jefferson's words are a forceful and explicit warning that to remove God from this country will destroy it."

JOHN O'CONNOR
Bearing the torch for
Oklahoma's future
|
John O'Connor's qualifications go deeper than the accolades of his peers and his leadership in philanthropic endeavors. He is a devout Christian, prayer warrior, and Bible student.
John 's Christianity is not just for show. It has defined every aspect of his life since his days at Oklahoma State University. It is why he was able to win the hand of Lucia, his wife of 42 years, formally Miss Oklahoma, and equally as firm in her devotion for the Scriptures and the way in which they are a guide for all of life's pathways.
His opponent, however, has deep ties to the Democrat Party in their effort to unseat the Attorney General. Find Ray Carter's article Democratic Boosters Seek to Influence GOP Attorney General Race here.
