French oil giant Total Energies is on the cusp of building the world's
longest heated crude oil pipeline — the East African Crude Oil Pipeline
(EACOP).

If finished, it would cause devastation for the people of Uganda and
Tanzania: communities will be displaced, ecosystems will be jeopardized,
water resources will be at risk, and livelihoods will be ruined.

During a time of unprecedented climate disasters, when people around the
world are waking up to the reality that we must radically transition away
from fossil fuels and toward renewables, the fossil fuel industry and its
funders are not only doing business as usual, but making further and
larger investments in a full-blown climate catastrophe.

It's honestly hard to believe that such greed exists.

But while it is upsetting and mind boggling, it is also exactly why we've
created and grown this multi-racial, international, multi-generational
movement for climate justice:

In moments like these, when the future of the climate and frontline
communities is at risk, we mobilize. We organize. We give every member of
our movement the chance to do everything they can to stand up to the
corruption and greed of the fossil fuel industry.

We've already seen some great progress towards stopping EACOP:

* Major U.S. banks, including JP Morgan, CitiGroup, and Wells Fargo,
have ruled out financing the project;
* Germany's largest bank, Deutsche Bank, which was one of the last
European banks thought to be financing the project, won't financially
support it;
* And eight of the world's largest multinational commercial insurance
companies have announced they will not insure the pipeline.

These victories are a testament to our climate movement. The work we've
all done together over the years has amounted to a reality in which it's
simply too damaging to the reputations of many financial institutions for
them to invest in projects like EACOP.

But there's still much to do if we're going to stop EACOP once and for
all. And the truth is that, unlike the fossil fuel industry, we do not
have unlimited finances.

What we do have, however, is campaigners on the ground ready to devise the
most strategic tactics to stop EACOP, an entire global organization's
worth of staff ready to spread, amplify, and maximize those campaign
tactics, and an incredible movement of people like you,
