It’s about damn time we banned assault weapons.

The heartbreaking events this past month — from Uvalde, Texas to Buffalo, New York — made it clear we can no longer be a nation that prioritizes “freedom” over innocent Americans — including children — being gunned down and murdered.

I’ve long supported legislation to ban assault weapons, but obstructionist Republicans in the Senate are keeping us from passing this life-saving measure into law because of their ties to the NRA.

We won’t back down, and we won’t take no for an answer. Take action and sign our petition to send a message to Republicans that we must ban assault weapons now.

As the former spokesperson for Moms Demand Action Illinois, I know we can dramatically reduce gun violence and the toll that it takes on families across this country. But it has to happen NOW.

If we allow these dangerous weapons to be legal, we’re putting our children and our fellow Americans' lives at risk. We can’t let that happen.
