HELP US RESTORE THE EARTH
BY PLANTING A TREE TODAY
On June 5th 2022, World Environment Day, the UN is calling for “collective, transformative action on a global scale to celebrate, protect and restore our planet”. For years our Plant a Tree supporters have been achieving exactly that – you can read about your impact here – but more work still needs to be done in this crucial decade for the Earth.

Reviving our degraded ecosystems has never been more important. It's no wonder the UN has proclaimed 2021-2030 as the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. Scientists have identified this as the last decade we have to prevent catastrophic climate change, and through Plant a Tree, you can participate in this global effort while also fighting against poverty and biodiversity loss.

All it takes is £5 to plant a tree with WLT, a fee that covers the collection of the seed, its nurturing in a nursery, and its ongoing care during the first 3-4 years of the tree’s life so that it gets the best start possible. Our partners will even replace the sapling if it doesn’t take hold. By donating, you’ll also be supporting sustainable livelihoods for local people – check out the Plant a Tree project reports below for more info.

The tagline for this year’s World Environment is a powerful one: #OnlyOneEarth. Our shared home has suffered enough. Let’s join together to heal the damage for the good of all livings things, and all those who will come after us. You have the power to make a difference!

PROJECT MONGMA RAMA:

Our ongoing appeal promises 125,00 new trees
and so much more for India's Garo Green Spine

In last month’s eBulletin, we showcased Project Mongma Rama, WLT’s appeal to protect, connect and restore biodiverse forests in northeast India’s Meghalaya State. £350,000 will bring the Garo Green Spine – supported by WLT since 2003 – to near completion, an almost completely contiguous network of protected areas almost 50 miles long from east to west.

Over the past two decades, an incredible 250,000 native trees have been planted here, restoring 300 ha of degraded land. With your help, we now have the chance to plant 125,000 more trees, using species beneficial for both people and wildlife. As with all elements of the Garo Green Spine project, local A’chik Mande communities will be directly involved throughout the process.

Project Mongma Rama isn't just about restoration – your donations will also protect 17,000 ha of elephant, gibbon and hornbill habitat, enlist three new rangers from local communities, and provide healthcare, education and sustainable livelihood support for the A’chik Mande.
