Since President Biden took office, over 2.7 million migrants have attempted to cross our Southwest border illegally. This surge can be traced back to President Biden's politically motivated decisions to dismantle the Remain in Mexico program, reinstate catch-and-release, and stop construction of the border wall system.
It is nearly impossible to grasp the full extent of the chaos unraveling everyday along the Southwest border without actually visiting and speaking with Customs and Border Protection (CBP), local law enforcement, and community members.
This week, I joined the House Budget Committee on a trip to McAllen, Texas and the Rio Grande River to examine President Biden’s border crisis. Border Patrol officials repeatedly brought up the termination of the Remain in Mexico Policy, which has made the Rio Grande Valley sector of our border a hotbed of illegal activity perpetrated by Cartels. Specifically, by flooding certain areas with a stampede of illegal border crossers, Mexican cartels exploit susceptible locations to traffic deadly drugs, including fentanyl.
