John,

On Thursday, three people died in a shooting outside of a church in Ames, Iowa. Four were killed in a shooting at a Tulsa, Oklahoma hospital on Wednesday. A week earlier, 19 children and two teachers were killed in a shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. Three weeks ago, 10 were killed while shopping for groceries in Buffalo, New York.

And those are just the mass shootings that made national headlines in the last 30 days.

Every year, an average of 115,551 Americans are shot. That's 306 shootings per day -- and 106 of those who are shot die from their wounds. Those numbers are far too high, and a disproportionate number of those killed are women and people of color.

It shouldn't be this way.

No one should be scared to see a movie, go shopping, go to school, or attend a church service. We owe it to every American to take swift action to address the gun violence epidemic happening in our country right now -- and we need our legislators to take action.

Today, I'm joining the 97% of Americans across the country who believe it's time for common sense gun reform in wearing orange to raise awareness and end gun violence in our country once and for all.

I hope you'll join me in not only taking this step, but also in demanding action.

It's time for legislators across the country to come together to pass meaningful gun reform legislation. If you agree, add your name to join me in fighting for a better future for our children.

Thank you,

Laura
