John,

Delivery slowdowns and increased prices at the U.S. Postal Service are
moving forward as Trump-appointed Postmaster General Louis DeJoy advances
Republicans’ long-term plan to privatize the USPS.

With a combination of higher prices for purchasing stamps and shipping
packages, office closures in rural areas, and layoffs for
already-marginalized communities, DeJoy has begun employing multiple
policies that deliberately hurt the USPS.

Republicans would like us to believe the post office is in trouble, but in
fact, DFA members stood together to help pass the Postal Service Reform
Act, which gives the USPS the ability to bring in additional revenue by
offering new products and services, from bus and subway passes, to check
cashing and WiFi access.

[ [link removed] ]Not surprisingly, Louis DeJoy is still refusing to implement any of
these new policies that would save the post office. That’s why we need you
to tell him and the USPS Board of Governors to stop slowing down mail and
raising prices and instead expand products and services to bring in new
revenue.

The push to privatize the USPS is because of its success, not because it
is struggling.

DeJoy is dragging his feet on creating new revenue streams for the USPS
because when the Postal Service looks like it’s in financial trouble,
politicians have an excuse to push for privatization. If DeJoy simply
allowed post offices to offer new services as Congress has already
authorized him to do, the USPS would thrive.

The fact of the matter is that the Postal Service is one of the oldest,
most unifying, and inclusive institutions in our country. It provides
essential services to the American people, particularly minority and rural
communities that rely on it for medications, voting, food and social
security and Medicare checks.

These essential needs are now threatened at the hands of Trump’s
Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, who is still working to undercut the
Postal Service.

From selling new products like hunting licenses, or paying off parking
tickets to electric vehicle charging stations, the list of new services
and products the USPS can provide is huge, all it takes to make it a
reality is Louis DeJoy and the USPS Board of Governors taking action.

[ [link removed] ]So please tell Louis DeJoy and the USPS Board of Governors to stop
slowing down mail and raising prices and instead expand products and
services to bring in new revenue.

Let's get this done. Thank you for taking action today.
