Let’s talk about what’s on the line this year, Jack:
- Reproductive Rights: We are the only state in the region that will continue to protect abortion care once Roe v. Wade is overturned. We need to ensure our rights remain protected.
- Gun Safety: New Mexico is an "open carry" state, which means that it's legal for most adults to openly carry guns and other deadly weapons in public without a license. We are home to a strong gun culture, but we also have thousands of parents that are terrified not knowing if their child’s school may be the next target of a mass shooting. Our voters will likely have to decide where we stand on our current gun legislation.
- Voting Rights: The New Mexico Voting Rights Act would expand and protect voting rights by making Election Day a state holiday, restoring voting rights of those who were previously incarcerated, extending early voting, creating a permanent absentee ballot list for absentee voters, and more. Maggie will use her voice as Secretary of State to lobby for this and similar legislation.
