A lasting relief effort starts with what we are doing today

Dear friend,
Thanks for
being part of a global community. This email is part of our ongoing series
of updates to help keep you informed about Mercy Corps’ emergency response
in Ukraine and surrounding countries.
After more than three months of war, the next phase of Mercy Corps’
humanitarian response is coming into focus. As we continue to support
dozens of local partner organizations in Ukraine, Poland, and Romania, our
teams are also setting up for the long haul — meeting basic needs through
cash assistance and establishing a presence where we’re most needed across
Ukraine in anticipation of a massive relief and recovery effort.
Read on to learn more about the daily impact our partners are making for
Ukrainian refugees with your support, and the foundation we’re building
together to continue supporting people in need in the months and years
ahead.
Partnering for impact
Mercy Corps is currently partnering with 40 local organizations — 17 in
Ukraine, 18 in Poland, and 5 in Romania — that have deep roots and
expertise in their communities. With our collective support, they’ve
mobilized quickly to assist refugees who have fled Ukraine and people who
have remained inside the country — with a special focus on those who are
at greatest risk including the elderly, disabled, and people from other
countries such as migrant workers who are now stranded in Ukraine.

organization in Poland. Originally a catering company, the organization
pivoted to feed refugees when the war started.
Some of the ways we’re helping:
Evacuating women, children, and people who are elderly, have
disabilities or face additional challenges to vacating intense
conflict areas
Distributing critically needed supplies — food, water, medical
supplies, clothes, diapers, and bedding — to intense conflict areas
and to places supporting a large influx of displaced people
Counseling children and their families using art, dance, and games to
help them cope with the stress and emotions brought on by these
traumatic events
Providing services for children and adults with autism, including
counseling, legal services, and medical support
Ensuring those from marginalized communities, including LGBTQIA+,
people of color, and third-country nationals, have access to safe
accommodation, services, and accurate information
Preparing for the long term
While supporting local organizations across the region, Mercy Corps is
also establishing offices in Ukraine, Poland, and Romania. We are
onboarding new team members and continuing to build our staffing capacity
in each of these offices. In the months ahead we expect to have team
members across the region supporting the immense humanitarian needs.
A a gift to Mercy Corps helps us to
provide the urgent humanitarian aid needed today — and the long-term
support needed in the weeks and months ahead — for families in crisis all
over the world. As we stay the course to help people heal and reestablish
their lives, one of the best ways you help is by starting a monthly
donation to Mercy Corps. We call our monthly givers our Partners In
Possibility because your gifts help families build toward brighter futures
with new possibilities.
