I wanted to do something different today. I wanted to get personal, explain who I am, and my decision to run for Congress.
I hope you’ll read it all the way through and, if you can, chip in a few of your hard-earned dollars to help me raise the kind of money I need to defeat a Capitol Insurrectionist →

Let me start by saying something that some people might consider to be pretty radical.
Rural America is just as important as anywhere else. I grew up on the farm and it taught me the values I carry with me to this day.
Life on the farm isn’t fancy. But you sure learn a thing or two. You learn humility. Slipping and falling in manure has a way of keeping you grounded.
And when problems come, as they always do, you don’t complain, you get to work. Because talking doesn’t help the crops to grow, get the produce to market or fix that hole in your fence before the cows get out.
That’s why I am so proud of my time working with Governor Evers leading the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. I fought to get relief for family farmers struggling to make ends meet every single day. When politicians in Madison told me to pipe down, I stood up. When they told me to be quiet, I spoke up louder. And when they refused to confirm me in the hopes that I might just leave them alone, I got back in the fight.
I ran for the State Senate. And I won. Now I’m there every day holding them accountable to the people of Wisconsin.
But my opponent, Derrick Van Orden? He doesn’t understand any of this in the slightest.
He’s basically got one approach: pit neighbor against neighbor and hope that in all the anger that generates, voters won’t notice that he doesn’t share our values at all. He was on the Capitol grounds on January 6th. That shameful, deadly day. He’s tried to cover it up because he knows people out here think that was wrong. He attacks people. Like teenage librarians. He’s a bully who can only win if we’re as divided as we’ve ever been. And if that doesn’t sound like it will be much help to you, you’re right. Derrick Van Orden is only in this for himself and to do what he’s told by his Washington backers.
But winning this campaign won’t be easy.
To defeat Van Orden, we need to build the most sophisticated campaign Wisconsin has ever seen. We need to register new voters, have authentic one-on-one conversations with voters to tell my story, run sophisticated digital advertisements, radio ads, television ads, and more to persuade everyone to join our campaign. But this effort will be expensive. I’m funding this campaign the right way: from small donations given by people reading emails like this one. So even though I hate to ask for money -- I have a humble request:
If you believe in me, if you believe we need to keep fighting, even when it’s hard, if you haven’t given up on the rural places many have forgotten -- join me on this journey. Chip in to this email today:
