Dear Friend,
June is
Pride Month, a time for us to recognize and
uplift the LGBTQIA+ community. We have taken to social media to help spread the word about events and programs related to Pride from our coalition member organizations. And in just the last few days,
people have attacked our intelligence and integrity, and
decried our support for those among us who are not heterosexual or cisgender. One commenter said, "
Shame on the Secular Coalition for America for being a grifter for the LBGTQIA lobby."
We do not accept the shame they would put upon us.Â
For 20 years, the Secular Coalition for America has
welcomed and celebrated diversity in our efforts to maintain a
wall between religion and government. From members of our own staff and board of directors, to people in a variety of roles at our member organizations, and on to our supporters and donors,
LGBTQIA+ individuals have been a part of everything we do. They have lobbied Congress for secular policy, they have spoken out against the threat of Christian nationalism, they have risked personal injury, professional backlash, and social persecution in order to attend rallies or perform direct action on behalf of nonreligious, secular Americans.
We honor that.
Now more than ever,
the influence of religion upon our nation's laws endangers all of us. Our health, bodily autonomy, families, education, and careers could be stripped away from us if we do not stand together.
Join us in protecting the equal rights of nonreligious Americans
â including those of the LGBTQIA+ community
â today.Â
