Growing up on the West Side of San Antonio, my family never had it easy.

The odds were stacked against us from the start.

My grandmother immigrated to this country as an orphan when she was 7. She never made it past the fourth grade but worked hard and cleaned houses to provide for us.

She never could have imagined her grandson would one day run for President -- but that's the American Dream for you.

More than anything, I want to reach the next debate stage for my grandmother -- and for every struggling American who doesn't think they have anyone speaking for them.
