Weekend Reading

Dear John,

Thank you to everyone who made this victory possible!

Here are this week's picks to inform and support your activism:

Why the world should care about the COVID outbreak in North Korea: [link removed] North Korea’s health care infrastructure is not equipped to handle a pandemic. The U.S. must act now to save lives and prevent the rise of new variants—while working to improve humanitarian cooperation with North Korea, writes AFSC’s Daniel Jasper. (38 North)

Join AFSC and the Poor People’s Campaign in Washington, D.C. on June 18: [link removed] Today millions of people face food insecurity, eviction from their homes, or lack health care or living wages. Meanwhile billionaires keep getting richer. On June 18, thousands will mobilize to the nation’s capital to call for a moral revolution and an end to voter suppression. Can you join us? Buses are filling up so reserve your spot today.

Helping peacebuilders find healing for their own trauma : [link removed] In 2020, AFSC piloted a trauma healing program in South Sudan to help peacebuilders get the support they need. The project has since reached 600 peacebuilders throughout the country and will continue until 2024, writes AFSC’s Zaina Kisongoa.

Last chance to sign our petition: Support abortion justice: [link removed] As we await the Supreme Court decision that could overturn Roe v. Wade, people across the country are demonstrating, volunteering, and demanding abortion rights for all. Many of you have also signed our petition with Daily Kos and partners. If you haven’t already, add your name today!

Support our summer programs for youth organizers: [link removed] Youth are powerful agents of change—especially when the community stands with them. In the U.S. and Somalia, AFSC is offering summer programs and trainings to help young people learn new skills and make a difference in their communities. To support our efforts, make a gift by June 6.

Be well and take care
