My team and I will #WearOrange today to demand a future free from gun violence. I hope you'll join us and millions across the country.

We cannot continue with the level of gun violence we are experiencing--from our own communities to the horrific mass shootings nationwide. Our kids should not be doing shooter drills in school and they should not feel unsafe in their communities. But it is an unfortunate reality of the unlimited, unrestricted gun America we live in.

We need to take action:

• Enact red flag and universal background check laws, as well as assault weapons ban and a 21-year-old minimum purchase law.
• Strongly enforce the gun laws we have, including those requiring responsible gun ownership.
• Build a community intervention model that includes neighbors, families, elected leaders, law enforcement, clergy, educators and the county attorney’s office so that we are all a part of the solution.

Public safety must be the top priority for leaders in our county, and we need everyone to be a part of the solution. I am committed to working side-by-side with anyone in our community who is willing to work toward change. It's what I've done as Majority Leader and will be how I operate as County Attorney.

We need action now to keep our children safe.
