Team,
This has been another hard week, at home and across the country. The pain, the heartbreak, and the anger arising from the senseless gun violence all around and so much else can feel like too much to bear. I have spent this week at home in Houston talking to so many people who have shared with me their feelings about the gravity of the moment we are living in. I feel it, too.
In the few days since the tragedy in Uvalde, we have seen news of more Americans killed every single day. Every one of them someone beloved. More than 200 mass shootings so far this year. At the beginning of this PRIDE month, we see the urgent need to protect the rights of LGBTQ+ Americans. And at the end of this month, we expect to see the Supreme Court’s ruling in the case that may very well overturn Roe v. Wade and the fundamental equality, dignity, and autonomy it has provided Americans for 50 years.
The weight of these issues and so many more leads us to ask so many questions about what we are doing and how we can do better. And one thing I am so grateful for is that, when faced with such overwhelming challenges, so many people are standing up for what’s right in all the ways they can – marching, writing, calling, organizing, canvassing, contributing, and never giving up.
And that includes everyone who has supported this campaign at this time. Support for this campaign will help make it possible for us to hold this seat in the House, to hold the House, and to turn voters out in Texas who can change the future of our state. I’m so grateful for everyone who contributed to our campaign last month.
The past few weeks have reminded us why our work together is vital and urgent. It could not be more clear that the people we empower as our leaders have power to profoundly shape these issues and our lives. To bring about change, we need to win elections.
That is what everyone on #TeamLizzie has been doing since day one. And I am so grateful to have your support and partnership, especially during weeks like these.
Together, we can do anything,
Lizzie
