It's pride month, John!

This month is a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, recognize the progress our country has made in the journey to equality, and recommit ourselves to the fight for equality.

Happy pride month!

Everyone deserves the opportunity to live their truth loudly and proudly. Our country was founded on the idea that all are created equal, and while our government has not honored this ideal throughout much of its history, it is our duty now to stand in defense of equality for ALL Americans.

Nobody should lose their home, be evicted from their workplace, be bullied in school, or even face death because of who they are and who they love. Yet everyday, members of the LGBTQ+ community have faced these devastating situations because their states refuse to protect them.

That's why I am proud to be an original co-sponsor of the Equality Act, which would amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to include protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Ensuring that the fundamental rights of the LGBTQ+ community are protected on a federal level is crucial, especially when nearly 240 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been filed in just 2022 and more than half our states provide no legal protection from discrimination.

We as a country cannot continue to condone the harmful culture of homophobic discrimination. It's time to act.

Last year, the House passed the Equality Act and now, we need to get this crucial piece of legislation passed in the Senate and on President Biden's desk. Sign this petition to demand that the Senate protect LGBTQ+ rights by passing the Equality Act >>
