Dear John,
At a time when more than 10,000 Americans are turning 65 every day, it’s crucial that older Americans can rely on a strong Social Security Administration (SSA) to field their questions or provide help. But since 2010, SSA has endured significant budget cuts that have led to staffing reductions and field office closures. That’s because the strategy of fiscal hawks in Congress has been: if you can’t cut benefits, cut SSA funding.
In fact, witness after witness testified at a recent congressional hearing on SSA service that the agency is in dire need of additional resources just to properly serve the public.
Please sign our Emergency Petition addressed to your member of Congress urging them to fully fund SSA’s essential customer service that is relied on by millions of older American workers, retirees, people with disabilities and their families.
Bottom line, imposing hardships on Social Security beneficiaries to receive information or help from SSA can undermine public support for Social Security itself — which is ultimately the goal of those in Washington who want to destroy this popular and effective program.
That’s why I urge you to please sign our Petition to Congress today and tell your U.S. Representative to support much-needed funding for SSA’s critical services.
Sincerely,
|
