It's Pride month! Happy June to all our LGBTQIA+ beloveds!
This Pride month, we're definitely celebrating (see below for more about the fabulous resources and events available from RfA and our partners) but we're aware too that the work is not done! Anti-queer prejudice still lurks in too many corners of our society, and certainly in the Reformed Church in America. How is your church making a difference in the lives of your fellow parishioners or in your community? Are you using the Room for All Sunday resources ([link removed]) ? Room for All wants to know! Reply to this email with examples or resources you've developed to elevate the voices of marginalized communities and stamp out prejudice this Pride month and all 11 other months of the year.
RfA is thrilled to announce the launch of Blessings for All, ([link removed]) a new Sunday School curriculum created for ages 2nd grade through adult!
With engaging activities that can be presented virtually or in person, abundant opportunities for continued conversation, and roots in the history of the LGBTQ+ community, the Blessings for All Sunday School curriculum gives your church community a new way to live your welcome together.
This resource is provided free to use, print, and reference. Special thanks to author and illustrator Mitch Leet and contributors Rev. Beth Carrol, Christina D'Onofrio, Madelyn Smith, and members of the RfA board.
Room for All will be at General Synod 2022! Cameron and some board members will be there as delegates, and Mitch will be there to meet people during breaks and make connections with the Iowa crowd. If you'll be at GS and want more information on being in touch or about LGBTQIA-affirming worship, reply to this email!
Pride Kickoff in Oakland, NJ (featuring the music of Elton John!), a cabaret in Schenectady, NY, and inclusive worship at Stanton Reformed Church (NJ) and online! Check out the Regional Gatherings ([link removed]) page for more info.
On a personal note, the reason we're featuring a little more orange today instead of the full rainbow is because orange is the color for National Gun Violence Awareness Day ([link removed]) , which happens to be today, June 3. Three people were killed in a shooting at a church last night only 29 miles north of my office. Twenty-one victims are being buried in Uvalde, TX. Four victims in Tulsa, OK. Ten more in Buffalo, NY. And these represent a small portion of those who have been injured or murdered due to gun violence/terrorism in the US in the last several weeks. The state of this nation is unwell. While "thoughts and prayers" are good, it's not enough. I'm encouraging each of your write your elected leaders and head to the ballot box for gun reform. It's too little, too late, but we must do something.
-Cameron
