JOIN US AT THE PEOPLE’S SUMMIT IN LOS ANGELES!

Dear members and supporters,

We are excitedly gearing up for the PEOPLE’S SUMMIT FOR DEMOCRACY [2] in
Los Angeles next week, bringing a delegation of over 30 GGJ members and
organizers to build solidarity with movement allies and comrades from
across the Americas.

Together, we will raise our collective voices to counter neoliberal forces
gathering at the Summit of the Americas (SA), held every few years—this
time in Los Angeles—and attended by banks, development agencies, and
heads of states from the Western Hemisphere.

The Summit of the Americas is themed _“Building a Sustainable, Resilient,
and Equitable Future.”_ This only furthers the contradictions and
greenwashing of the neoliberal project in this critical historical moment
of polarized wealth and poverty that we have seen across the Americas
throughout the pandemic and the rise of neo-fascist forces in many of our
states.

Historically, the Organization of American States (OAS), the SA convener,
has been designed to uphold U.S. hegemony and corporate interests across
the Americas, often mobilized against progressive, left, and socialist
governments when they have come to power in the region.

This year, with the United States as the host country, the question of U.S.
hegemony and the exclusion of socialist state leaders has come to a head.
Despite the summit being a vehicle for the countries of Latin America,
North America, and the Caribbean to discuss common issues and policies, the
U.S. has barred Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela from attending. This
exclusion has culminated in a MULTICOUNTRY AND LEADER BOYCOTT [3],
including Guatemala, Bolivia, and Mexican President Andrés Manuel López
Obrador.

We are mobilizing to support the PEOPLE’S SUMMIT [4], a counter event
created by movement forces as a space for frontline communities and popular
movements to collaborate on pressing issues in Turtle Island and throughout
the hemisphere.

With our banner message—NO WAR, NO WARMING: BUILDING A FEMINIST ECONOMY,
our GGJ delegation will bring perspectives of North American grassroots
organizing movements with our global allies in shared struggle around land
and water defense, demilitarization and divestment from systems of harm,
forced migration in the Americas, climate justice, Indigenous & national
sovereignty, upholding bodily autonomy, and feminist economies.

_Gender Violence and the Struggle for Liberation_
Violence against women and the LGBTQ+ community pervades our societies at
all levels, from the home to the state. Join activists and organizers to
share perspectives on the struggle against patriarchy and gender-based
violence in all of its forms in today’s world.

FRIDAY, JUNE 10 | 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM | Multipurpose Room
NO WAR, NO WARMING—BUILDING A FEMINIST ECONOMY [7] | WORKSHOP
The U.S. military is the single largest consumer of fossil fuels in the
world, enforces occupation of Indigenous sovereign lands, and upholds
violent resource extraction across the world. Addressing climate change
requires ending this U.S. military-industrial complex and all its
consequences on our communities. and presence. We will hear testimonies
from communities in resistance, and ultimately call on world leaders to
take action to stop funding unending wars, uphold self-determination and
sovereignty, and invest in regeneration and a feminist economy.

We hope to see many of you in Los Angeles! Even if you can’t join us in
the streets, follow us ONLINE [8] and join in the movement building with
us.

As our comrades at La Via Campesina remind us, _Globalize the Struggle,
Globalize Hope!_

Querides miembros y partidaries,

Estamos preparándonos con mucho entusiasmo para la CUMBRE DE LOS PUEBLOS
[2] en Los Ángeles la semana que viene, llevando a una delegación de más
de 30 miembros y organizadores de GGJ para cultivar solidaridad con aliades
y camaradas de movimientos sociales en las Américas.

Juntes, elevaremos nuestras voces colectivas para contrarrestar las fuerzas
neoliberales reunidas en la Cumbre de las Américas, la cual se lleva a
cabo cada varios años—esta vez en Los Ángeles—y a la cual asisten
bancos, agencias de desarrollo y jefes de estado del hemisferio occidental.

La Cumbre de las Américas tiene la temática _“Construyendo un futuro
sostenible, resiliente y equitativo.”_ Esto no hace más que profundizar
las contradicciones y el “maquillaje verde” del proyecto neoliberal en
este momento histórico crítico de polarización de riqueza y pobreza que
hemos visto en las Américas durante la pandemia, y el aumento de fuerzas
neofascistas en muchos de nuestros estados.

Históricamente, la Organización de Estados Americanos, la cual convoca la
Cumbre, fue diseñada para mantener la hegemonía estadounidense y los
intereses corporativos en las Américas, y se ha movilizado frecuentemente
en contra de gobiernos progresistas, izquierdistas y socialistas cuando
asumen poder en la región.

Este año, con Estados Unidos como país anfitrión, la cuestión de la
hegemonía estadounidense y la exclusión de líderes de estados
socialistas llegó a su punto crítico. A pesar de que la cumbre es un
vehículo para que los países de Latinoamérica, Norteamérica y el Caribe
hablen sobre temas y políticas en común, EE.UU. ha bloqueado la
participación de Cuba, Nicaragua y Venezuela. Esta exclusión culminó en
un BOICOT DE VARIOS PAÍSES Y LÍDERES [3], incluyendo Guatemala, Bolivia y
el presidente mexicano, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Estamos movilizándonos para apoyar la CUMBRE DE LOS PUEBLOS [4], un
contra-evento creado por fuerzas del movimiento como un espacio para que
las comunidades en primeras líneas y los movimientos populares colaboren
alrededor de temas urgentes en la Isla Tortuga y en todo el hemisferio.

Con nuestro mensaje titular—NI GUERRA, NI CALENTAMIENTO: CONSTRUYENDO UNA
ECONOMÍA FEMINISTA—nuestra delegación de GGJ traerá perspectivas de
los movimientos norteamericanos organizativos de las bases a nuestros
aliados globales en la lucha compartida alrededor de la defensa de tierra y
agua, la desmilitarización y la desinversión de los sistemas de daño, la
migración forzada en las Américas, la justicia climática, la defensa de
la autonomía corporal y las economías feministas.

La violencia contra las mujeres y la comunidad LGBTQ+ permea nuestras
sociedades en todos los niveles, desde el hogar hasta el estado. Únase a
activistas y organizadores para compartir perspectivas sobre la lucha
contra el patriarcado y la violencia basada en género en todas sus formas
en el mundo actual.

La milicia estadounidense es la mayor consumidora de fósiles combustibles
del mundo, impone la ocupación en tierras soberanas indígenas y mantiene
la extracción violenta de recursos en todo el mundo. Abordar el cambio
climático requiere ponerle un fin al complejo militar industrial
estadounidense y todas sus consecuencias en nuestras comunidades.
Escucharemos los testimonios de comunidades en resistencia, y por último
les exigiremos a los líderes mundiales que tomen acción para dejar de
financiar guerras interminables, sostener la autodeterminación y
soberanía e invertir en la regeneración y en una economía feminista.

¡Esperamos ver a muches de ustedes en Los Ángeles! Y si no puede
participar en la calle, síganos VIRTUALMENTE [8] y únase a la
edificación del movimiento con nosotres.
