| Dear John,
Today is 100 days since the war in Ukraine started.
Since the onset of the Russian invasion, one-third of Ukrainians have been forced from their homes.
|
This is the largest human displacement crisis in the world today |
|
Some 8 million people have been displaced internally within Ukraine and some 13 million people are estimated to be stranded in affected areas or unable to leave due to heightened security risks, destruction of bridges and roads, as well as lack of resources or information on where to find safety and accommodation.
I wanted to share with you this message from my colleague Marta, who left Ukraine in February and is now working as a UNHCR translator in Poland. She is just one of the many Ukrainians working with UNHCR across the region, providing urgently needed help which is possible thanks to your support. I also want to say thanks to Marta for sharing her story and for working with us in this unprecedented crisis.
Best, Astrid van Genderen Stort, Chief of Emergencies and External Engagement, UNHCR PS: The numbers of people forced to flee are growing every day and we need urgent funds to increase our support. Will you please donate monthly today? |
