Happy Pride Month!

During Pride Month, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community across the nation and recommit to safeguarding and advancing rights and equality for LGBTQ+ Americans, especially as they come under sustained attack.

Every person should be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of who they love and how they identify. But across the country, Republican governors in states like Texas and Florida are waging a shameful assault on LGBTQ+ rights.

Let me be clear: No LGBTQ+ American should face discrimination and unjust treatment simply because of who they are and who they love.

That’s why I proudly voted for both the Equality Act and an expanded Violence Against Women Act that included real protections for LGBTQ+ women. The Equality Act bans discrimination in housing, education, the workforce, and other aspects of everyday life for LGBTQ+ individuals.

Now more than ever, we must abolish the filibuster and pass the Equality Act so we can guarantee every LGBTQ+ American the full freedom of equality.

Being an effective ally for the LGBTQ+ community goes beyond just voting for legislation, laws, and policies that expand equality. As allies, we must also speak out against the injustices and violence members of the queer community face each and every time it occurs.

I’ll always stand proud with my LGBTQ+ neighbors, and I thank you for celebrating Pride Month with me by standing up and making your voice heard.
