Hey there --
If Elon’s deal to acquire Twitter closes, it will threaten users, society, and democracy .
Last month, we sent an open letter [[link removed]] co-signed by 25 other nonprofit groups to Twitter’s top advertisers urging them to demand he uphold key safety standards throughout his acquisition of the company. Shortly after, he tweeted [[link removed]] about our letter, urging his 96 million Twitter followers to investigate who funds our nine-person team. And you know what? We’re not backing down, especially since he’s recently made clear he would rollback Twitter’s basic safeguards against hate, violence, and disinformation.
Today, we’re launching a new campaign to do everything in our power to stop Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover. [[link removed]]

There’s so much at stake for the future of our already fragile information ecosystem. These are just some of the ways Elon’s takeover will hurt people both on and offline:
- Inciting Violence and Hate: Elon Musk would steamroll basic content moderation safeguards and provide a megaphone to extremists who traffic in white nationalism, hate, disinformation, and harassment—further endangering marginalized communities.
- Reinstating Banned Accounts: Elon Musk would reinstate Twitter accounts of public figures who were banned for inciting violence and spreading dangerous disinformation.
- Asserting Unilateral Control: Our safety and democracy should not be at the whim of unaccountable billionaires – whether it’s Elon Musk or anyone else. We cannot allow Elon Musk to own such a large part of our information ecosystem.
The last thing we need is another billionaire controlling our information ecosystem. Add your name to join the fight to stop the deal. [[link removed]]

We know we’re going up against a powerful billionaire, but we also know lives and democracy are at risk. We need to make our voices heard.
Together, we can stop the deal.
Let’s get to it,
