Dear Friend,

I have spent 25 years — my entire career — at Earthjustice. I have witnessed the power of the law both to protect equal rights and to dismantle them. I am bracing myself for the Supreme Court decisions awaiting us this month. It’s one thing to suspect where the Supreme Court is headed, and it’s another thing to experience it.

However, I am unshaken in my conviction that we are building a more just future together. 

That conviction, friend, comes from you. Every day, I see tens of thousands of Earthjustice advocates and donors giving generously to keep creating change in the face of upheaval. As my Constitutional Law professor impressed upon me in law school, the courts alone will never save us. We must use the courts — and every other lever of power — to save ourselves.

We knew this Supreme Court would make our work harder, and it will. Earthjustice is prepared to push forward as we always have, despite the terribly wrong decisions we expect will come this June and beyond – decisions that directly impact our planet and communities.

We’re taking the fight against the fossil fuel industry right to its epicenter. Just this week, we announced the opening of our new Gulf Office in Houston, Texas.

As the home base for significant fossil fuel operations, the Gulf Coast has been subjected to some of the most egregious failures of environmental regulation in the country. Our window to prevent a climate catastrophe is closing, but there’s still time to move towards a clean energy future, in which the rights to clean air and water are respected for all. What happens in the Gulf affects everyone. 

So, while the forces driving inequity are pulling as many levers of power as they can reach, know that there are still potent forces fighting for justice. 

Your support makes that possible, and I am so grateful. Earthjustice is ready to work with you as we rise to the responsibilities ahead of us. We have the foresight, the expertise and the leadership to continue this fight at all levels – and we will win.
