Happy Pride Month, friend!
As a member of the Pennsylvania LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus, this celebration is especially dear to my heart.
53 years ago this month, the first Pride March was born out of the Stonewall riots that occurred in New York City. What began as a protest against bigotry and discrimination has since sparked a modern movement to champion the right to live proudly and authentically.
However, this celebration also serves to remind us of the unwavering bravery that it takes to stand up for what is just — and the bravery each of us needs to continue this fight today.
Though we’ve come a long way since our nation’s first Pride, we cannot lose sight of all we have yet to accomplish. From securing statewide protections against discrimination to defending against constant attacks on our transgender neighbors, there are still battles to be won in the fight for equality.
And friend, I promise I will never stop fighting until each and every Pennsylvanian can enjoy the same basic rights.
In light of this month’s celebration, I’d like to highlight some incredible local resources and national organizations doing amazing work to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ Americans across the country: Allegheny County LGBTQ Resources ([link removed]), The Trevor Project ([link removed]), Dreams of Hope ([link removed]), Proud Haven ([link removed]).
Whether you need these resources or are simply looking to educate yourself further, I encourage you to take a look, share with your family, and have meaningful conversations with your friends about how you can be an ally to our LGBTQ+ neighbors.
As your state senator, I promise to make my office a safe space for each and every Pennsylvanian. Please know that my door is always open if you or a loved one need additional resources or support this month.
In solidarity,
Senator Lindsey Williams
