Detroit DSA is a 800+ member funded organization. We receive no money from outside sources so we can say things like "Defund the Police" and "Abolish ICE" without losing funding, and we will always act democratically in the interests of our members and the working class! If you're able to, we ask that you make monthly contributions as they more directly benefit our chapter. Thank you for whatever amount you're able to contribute!

Our records indicate that you are not yet a member. If you're ready to join us in the fight for the working class, go to dsausa.org/join and join today!

Comrade Friend --

This Saturday is our June General Meeting, where we'll be electing our Steering Committee for the next year! Be sure to register for the meeting and check out our wonderful candidates. While everyone is welcome to attend our General Meetings, only members will be allowed to vote. If you wish to vote in our Steering Committee Election, be sure to make sure your member dues are up to date.

It takes a lot of work to keep our chapter going while organizing to build socialism in Detroit and Southeast Michigan. Thanks so much to everyone running this term! We're grateful for the leadership of every candidate and are excited to see where they take us into 2023 and beyond!

In a few weeks, our Political Education Committee will be meeting to discuss, "Whose Detroit?". We'll be joined by author Heather Thompson, so you won't want to miss it!

Solidarity forever,

Detroit DSA

AGENDA

---

Promotional graphic for the socialist book club reading:

"Even after Great Society liberals committed themselves to

improving conditions in Detroit, Thompson argues, poverty and police

brutality continued to plague both neighborhoods and workplaces.

Frustration with entrenched discrimintation and the lack of meaningful

remedies not only led Black residents to erupt in the infamous urban

uprising of 1967, but it also sparked myriad grassroots challenges to

postwar liberalism in the wake of that rebellion. With deft attention

to the historical background and to the dramatic struggles of

Detroit's residents, and with a new prologue that argues for the ways

in which the War on Crime and mass incarceration also devasted the

Motor City over time, Thompson has written a biography of an entire

nation at a time of crisis."
