On Tuesday, the Minnesota candidate filing period closed, and the official 2022 election season has begun!
We know many of you have heard more than once that “this election is the most important,” but truly, this election is one of the most important of our lifetimes because, in addition to so many critical issues, democracy is on the ballot this election.
It has become abundantly clear that we must change the structural incentives in our government so that our political leaders are motivated to work on behalf of the majority of voters and reach out across the aisle to collaborate on desperately needed solutions for Minnesota voters – rather than being focused on an extreme base or denying wins to the opposing party. Ranked Choice Voting can help get us there.
And YOU can be part of the solution by helping to elect pro-RCV candidates to the Minnesota legislature.
FairVote Minnesota awards its RCV Democracy Champion badge to candidates who support RCV for state and federal offices and the ability of local jurisdictions to adopt RCV if they choose. The badge is not an endorsement and multiple candidates in a race can receive the badge; it is intended to highlight the importance of RCV and help voters and FVMN volunteers identify pro-RCV candidates to support. We are re-launching our RCV Democracy Champion Candidate volunteer program on Saturday, June 18th with a Day of Action when you can help phone bank or door knock for our pro-RCV candidates.

Door knocking and phone banking are the best way to do voter outreach. If you’ve never done door knocking or phone banking, don’t worry — when you sign up to volunteer, you will have training that makes it easy and understandable. On June 18th, we will have several door knock and phone bank events throughout the day for RCV Democracy Champion candidates. You can give just one hour or several, whatever works for your schedule.
The RCV Candidate Program will also have a tremendous impact on the future of democracy in our state. We are supporting pro-RCV candidates in targeted districts to help them win their elections – so that we can have a pro-RCV majority in the Minnesota legislature that will pass RCV if elected.
