Tiger database to help fight illegal trade

EIA is delighted to be one of the first beneficiaries of a grant from the Alan Turing Institute, helping us create a new resource to combat illegal trade in tigers and their parts and products. Our Tiger Campaign’s project aims to develop an AI detection tool to help identify individual tiger stripe pattern profiles. Tiger stripes are as unique as fingerprints and we plan to create a database comprising thousands of images which will allow the identification of tigers and skins seized in illegal trade.
