John ,
I’M BACK!!!
[[link removed]]
Let me start by telling you, it’s good to be home. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved my time in Europe – the culture, the architecture, the people, and, of course, the food ! But I probably won't do it again because it was simply too much time away from my wife. (If I do go again, she’ll have to be with me, so I’ll keep you posted on how those conversations go – she’s a bit of a homebody.)
My favorite thing to do is travel, and when I go to new places I love to explore and just walk around and take in the sights. I don't think I’ve ever walked as much as I did these past six weeks in the whole rest of my life combined – not even in the Army did we walk 10 to 15 miles every day! It’s a good thing, too, because despite all the food that I ate (and it was A LOT), I got to burn all those calories off and didn’t gain an ounce – in fact, I was tightening my belt by the end of it.
Anyway, the trip was amazing, but by the end, I was more than ready to get back to the good old U.S. of A. – partly because I really missed it, and partly because it pretty clearly needs some help!
So, let's talk about the disaster that is our country at the moment …
The news coming out of the U.S. in the month of May was simply atrocious, from the impending loss of fundamental civil rights to unspeakable human tragedies, we seemed to have covered it all.
I obviously talked to a lot of Europeans during my trip, and everyone – literally every single one of them – asked me the same exact thing: Why are you Americans so obsessed with guns? Don't you value human life at all?
Every time I heard it, I was ashamed that they were right.
I tried to explain the NRA, the filibuster, and without hesitation they all replied, “Those sound like excuses, Richard.”
Again, they were right.
Gun violence in this country is an existential threat to our way of life, and we must treat it that way. The NRA and the Senate Republicans they own are an existential threat to our way of life.
Our children and grandchildren deserve better than this, and it is up to us to fight for them.
Look, I put my life on the line for this country. I served for over two decades in active combat duty. Many of my brothers and sisters did not get to come home. Others came home debilitated – physically, psychologically, or both.
We didn’t do all that so we could be betrayed by those elected to serve us.
It’s Congress’s job to represent the people, to fight for our rights, and to protect our lives with the laws they pass.
Instead, 50 Republicans and a couple of turncoat Democrats are allowing a Supreme Court stacked with religious zealots to strip us of our civil rights and obstructing any legislation that would curb the number of gun deaths in this country – even though two-thirds of Americans support Roe v. Wade and 90% want increased gun control.
So, what are we going to do about it?
There’s only one thing we CAN do: Get off our asses and expand our House and Senate majorities. Nothing else matters!
Whatever else you’ve got going on this summer, know that protecting our children’s lives must be our top priority as a country. The number one job of any government, above anything else is the protection of its citizens – that’s been the case since the beginning of civilization.
Right now, our government is not protecting us, and it’s only because 52 people in a country of over 350 million are standing in the way. Shame on us if we don't defeat them.
How do we beat them?
We organize, we get loud, we mobilize, and we do what we do best – make some noise.
We as Democrats hugely outnumber the other side, it's not even close. What we don't do is vote in the same numbers or with the same passion that they do.
We’ve got to change that.
We need to hold the same kinds of rallies that Trump and his goons hold across the country, with even bigger numbers. You guys want charismatic speakers that can light up a crowd? Hand me a mic! I know I said I won’t travel abroad again or for very long without my wife, but that doesn't mean I won't travel back and forth here at home!
I am planning to tour the country this summer, meet with folks, talk about our mission, fundraise for our candidates, and discuss the issues that impact our communities. If you are interested in bringing me to your hometown, click here [[link removed]] and let's set it up.
To do all this we need the resources – we need you to step up and help us do the work that we do.
Republican fundraising messages say stuff like “If you love your country, prove it – donate now!”
That’s manipulative B.S. – I know you love this country regardless of whether or not you donate – but if you believe in our mission and you are able to donate, please consider chipping in to support No Dem Left Behind today.

We have less than 6 months to go to decide the future of the country we want to live in – let’s make sure we get it right.
Sappers clear the way, Airborne all the way!
