I was just reading
up on the latest spend estimates, the millions upon millions of dollars we will see spent in the 2020 elections. It is staggering and truly appalling.
I believe in publicly funded elections. It is the only way to protect against the money threat facing our democracy.
Yes, money is important to spread a message. But money must be a campaign and a candidate's fuel not their folly.
A publicly funded system ensures an elected official isn't beholden to outside wealthy donors, special interests or corporations. Getting to such a system at the federal level, however, won't be an easy task.
But imagine if we could model a better way and win? It is harder, but the result is greater because it is the change we need.
- Small dollar, grassroots money primarily from the community, not from outside wealthy donors with no understanding of a district.
- A focus on meeting voters and a strategic ground game, not fancy fundraisers for the donor class.

My best,
Anita
