Pride Month — and the progress we have to celebrate — has grown. We can celebrate great leaders like State Senator Emily Randall, our state's amazing Speaker of the House Laurie Jinkins, outstanding local leaders like Pierce County Councilman Ryan Mello and Bremerton City Councilman Michael Goodnow, and so many others who are blazing trails and making a difference!
While we celebrate LGBTQ+ leaders, activists, and communities this month, we need to recommit to defending the rights of LGBTQ+ Americans. Earlier this year, a Republican-led state legislature in Florida passed a Don't Say Gay bill and copy-cat bills are being introduced in over a dozen other states. We need to call attention to the attacks on the LGBTQ+ community that continue to crop up all over our country.
Team, I want to be clear: These hateful and horrific laws and actions have no place in our country, and it's on all of us to fight back. I stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community and remain committed to doing everything I can to protect the rights and safety of ALL Americans.
This Pride Month, I am honored to continue fighting alongside the LGBTQ+ community now, and every day, for the equality and justice that all of us are entitled to.
I hope you'll join me in this fight, this month and every month.
