CA Health Rights could change course
if the right people are elected!

The Primary Election in CA is June 7, 2022. With less than a week to go, A Voice for Choice Advocacy asks you to do something this weekend, to help elect legislators who care about California Health Rights and vaccine choice. Your votes are critical. By the end of the weekend, be sure you have:

1) Registered to Vote (if you are eligible)

2) Identified which Candidates for California Health Rights you will vote for

As non-profit, A Voice for Choice Advocacy cannot endorse a candidate or tell you who to vote for, but we can tell you how to work out who in your districts will further California Health Rights and vaccine choice. A Voice for Choice Advocacy usually doesn’t send an email out with information until the General Election, but so many have emailed asking for guidance with the Primary Election, hence this email only a few days before the primaries.

The individuals and makeup of the CA legislature (Assembly and Senate) is what determines what bills get passed and which don’t here in California. The State Assembly and Senate elections, as well as your Sherriff, your Board of Supervisors and your City Councils are the most important races - they will decide what happens in the next 2-4 years in California, so we ask you get involved in the election process.

Register to Vote:

It is really important to vote. Only a very small percentage of CA citizens actually vote. This means that your vote can make a difference. To vote in California, you must be registered, and the deadline to register to vote was May 23, 2022. However, if you need to change your voter registration or would like to register for the first time, you still have an opportunity to vote in the Primary Election. Register online and take your voter registration or receipt with you to your county elections office or a voting location.

Identify which Candidates for California Health Rights you will vote for :

Note: California has top two primaries, where the two candidates who receive the most votes move on to the General Election, not the top candidates from the top two parties. This is different from most other states. This means that the primary elections can easily create a supermajority party because two candidates from the same party can make it to the General Election.
Federal Legislature: One Senator is up for election in California this year.  All Federal Congressmen/Congresswomen are up for election.  You can find your congressional district number by entering your address here: [link removed]
Governor:  The CA Governor is up for election.
State Legislature: In California, every Assembly district is up for election and half the Senate districts are up for election – the even numbered districts.  You can find your Assembly district number and your Senate district number by typing your address into this link: [link removed].
Sherriff, Board of Supervisors and City Council:  These offices may or may not be up for election in your area, so check your ballot.

Christina and a few others have been working on a project, separate from AVFCA, which identifies which CA state candidates are for California Families for Health Rights ( [link removed] [[link removed]] ). This organization does not usually put out recommendations for the primaries as there are so many candidates, but with the number of requests for information, they put together as much information as they have. If you have candidates you know are for CA Health Rights and Vaccine Choice, which they have not identified, please let them know by submitting a form on the CA Families for Health Rights website.
