From Columbine High School to Robb Elementary School, 169 children have
been killed in mass school shootings since 1999.^1

169 children.

Now, in the wake of the horror of Uvalde, Americans want to know, will
Congress finally do something?!

The answer could be yes. All Democrats have to do is end the filibuster.

A majority in both houses of Congress support common sense gun
legislation. And while ending the filibuster was considered a fringe
position at the time of the Sandy Hook shooting, nearly every Senate
Democrat voted to end the filibuster in January when considering voting
rights bills.^2

And there's one other reason this time could be different: The NRA is
facing bankruptcy and is weaker than it's ever been.^3 If we make enough
noise and put enough pressure on Congress, we can finally beat the NRA and
get something done.

A stunning 84% of voters, including 77% of Republicans, support requiring
all gun purchasers to go through a background check.^4 And after the 2012
Sandy Hook shooting, a bill to require universal background checks passed
the House of Representatives and got 54 votes in the Senate.^5

Yet because of the filibuster rule, 54-46 isn't enough to pass a bill in
the Senate.

But since then, things have changed. Momentum is growing to end the
filibuster, and after yet another horrific school shooting, how can
Senators Manchin and Sinema look parents in the eye and say that an arcane
rule is more important than protecting our kids?

We've had enough of NRA-owned Republicans sending "thoughts and prayers."
We've had enough of Democrats who say these reforms are too extreme.
