Dear Friends and Supporters:

With your help, our virtual galas these past two years have not only helped sustain and grow the impact of Disability Rights Advocates (DRA), they have fostered a sense of community and connectivity across the country. This year, we’re planning a hybrid gala to keep that momentum going and we ask that you Save the Date Thursday October 6th for DRA’s 2022 Gala: Advocating from the Heart, Raising All Boats ([link removed]) .

This year’s gala will feature an impactful lineup with a specific focus on intersectionality and how disability rights truly are part of the current and future civil rights movement focused on achieving full equality for all.

The gala will be hosted by the Chief Correspondent for the PBS Newshour, Amna Nawaz. Prior to joining the NewsHour, Nawaz was an anchor and correspondent at ABC News, anchoring breaking news coverage and leading the network’s digital coverage of the 2016 presidential election. Before that, she served as a foreign correspondent at NBC News, reporting from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, Turkey, and the broader region. She is also the founder and former managing editor of NBC’s Asian America platform, built to elevate the voices of America’s fastest-growing population. In 2019, her reporting as part of a NewsHour series on the global plastic problem was the recipient of a Peabody Award. Nawaz has also been honored with an Emmy Award for the NBC News Special “Inside the Obama White House,” a Society for Features Journalism Award, and was a recipient of the International Reporting Project fellowship in 2009.

Please save the date now and mark your calendars for October 6th at 4:00pm Pacific / 7:00pm Eastern. While this gala will be accessible virtually, we are also planning in-person viewing parties for those of you who are interested in gathering in community. So that we can plan the right balance of in-person and virtual options, please complete this online form to share with us how you would like to experience this year’s event ([link removed]) .

Take care and stay tuned for future gala updates, as well as links to register and watch the show. Thanks for all that you do for DRA and the clients we serve. Together, we are inching closer to a day when we can all enjoy full equality and inclusion.

Yours in solidarity,
Kathy Martinez, Rebecca Williford, and the DRA Team
