Dear John,
Four years ago, I stood with Janet Mills on the banks of the Kennebec River to say that only one candidate for governor — Janet Mills — would develop clean renewable energy, tackle climate change, and ensure that our lands, waters, and wildlife were protected for future generations.
That remains as true today as it was four years ago. Yesterday in Bangor, Maine Conservation Voters Action Fund announced our support for the re-election of Governor Mills.
If re-elected, Gov. Mills will continue her forward-looking approach to addressing climate change [[link removed]] , accelerating the state’s transition to 100% clean renewable energy [[link removed]] while reducing the state’s dependence on oil [[link removed]] , and protecting Maine’s waters, wildlife, and way of life [[link removed]] for future generations.

MCV members, registered Maine guides, parents, veterans, business owners, scientists, and other friends gathered in Bangor City Forest to show support for Governor Mills.
This stands in stark contrast to the anti-renewable energy [[link removed]] , anti-environment [[link removed]] , oil-dependent [[link removed]] legacy of Paul LePage. LePage was willing to sacrifice the health of our environment and weaken protections for our kids [[link removed]] time and again. He withheld voter-approved bond funding for the Land for Maine’s Future program [[link removed]] . LePage kept the state dependent on oil and gas and turned his back on the potential of clean technology as an economic engine for our state that would bring good-paying jobs and long-term price stability.
As Maine Conservation Voters Board President, Jennifer Melville, said yesterday, “The differences between Governor Mills and Paul LePage could not be clearer: Governor Mills leads on protecting our lands and waters for Mainers to enjoy, while LePage ignored the voters who overwhelmingly voted to support the popular Land for Maine’s Future program. While LePage tried to open Maine lands to open pit metallic mineral mining, Governor Mills protected Maine’s outdoor heritage for future generations.”
Polly Mahoney, registered Master Maine Guide and co-owner of Mahoosuc Guide Service in Newry added, “I’ve been lucky that I have been able to make a living guiding and that’s the only thing I have done for the last 32 years. I obviously need wild country and clean rivers and Janet Mills has been supportive of these and more. I wouldn’t be able to do my job without these places. For this, I am endorsing Governor Mills today.”
Emerald Russell Forcier, a mother and small-business owner in Bangor also joined us saying, “I think about ensuring good-paying jobs to help keep my kids in Maine if they choose – jobs in the renewable energy sector, farming, fishing, and more. In order to protect their future, we need to place Maine before corporate interests who will not think twice about destroying Maine’s outdoor heritage and clean energy industries to fill their own pockets.”
MCV Action Fund is supporting the re-election of Gov. Janet Mills over Paul LePage because we cannot go back to the past. Time is precious. What we do over the next few years will determine what future we create for our children. But it’s going to take all of us working together to make sure we win in November. From making phone calls, to knocking on doors, to contributing financially, I hope we can count on conservation voters like you to make the difference.
Best,
