The federal government has completely left out Tribal Nations from accessing essential resources to protect against a public health emergency like the Covid-19 pandemic.
The CDC Tribal Public Health Security and Preparedness Act would ensure that Tribal Nations have equal access to funding for future public health emergencies.
Right now, Tribal Nations cannot even apply for the CDC’s Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) cooperative agreement program to access funds which state and local public health departments relied heavily on during the pandemic.
As a result, Tribal Nations have disproportionately suffered both medically and economically from the pandemic the past two years.
Many reservations are situated in rural parts of the United States. The Six PAC is working to elect rural progressives who will fight to protect them.
U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (NM) and Elizabeth Warren (MA) and U.S. Representatives Ruben Gallego (AZ) and Tom Cole (OK) have introduced the CDC Tribal Health Security and Preparedness Act to end the unjust exclusion of Tribal Nations from essential public health funding.
Thanks for taking action.
