David Sirota is one of the writers of Oscar-nominated Don't Look Up. He was a speechwriter for Bernie Sanders' recent campaign. I credit his reporting (years ago) with changing my political thinking and making me a progressive.

We were proud to host David Sirota, Don't Look Up executive director Adam McKay, and Elizabeth Warren on a national Zoom with PCCC members recently. Over 55,000 people tuned in and The LA Times did a full profile of the event. One of my favorite moments was when David said:
"We're not going to get a lot of help from corporate media that is very much bankrolled by the fossil fuel industry, that does not want climate change to become an electoral and political issue in elections. The fossil fuel industry doesn't have to fight it out on the merits of the issue if they can effectively keep climate change out of the campaign discourse. It doesn't have to air ads trying to make its point if climate change is just not a germane issue in elections. And the media doesn't necessarily want it to be a germane issue...
"Confirming that analysis is the fact that the war in [Ukraine] prompted a media narrative that effectively was a narrative pushing the world to make the climate crisis worse....The war happened, and it was like, how do we actually increase oil drilling as opposed to a discussion about how do we actually disconnect our energy system from the fossil fuels industry?"
In the last few weeks alone, The Lever broke open stories about Big Tech trying to crush antitrust legislation, a progressive lawmaker exposing a Wall Street scam, and a corporate-aligned super PAC trying to buy a Senate Democratic primary. And their reporting recently boosted Senate Democrats’ efforts to force the Biden administration to reduce student debt.
