Trump-appointed Postmaster General Louis DeJoy wants to privatize the USPS. We must stop him.

His plan is to slow down mail delivery and raise prices. He would rather close post offices, sell off sorting equipment, and reduce operating hours than find new ways to fund and strengthen the Postal Service.

Even as Congress gave the USPS the ability to partner with local and state governments to bring in products and services, all Louis DeJoy wants to do is slow down the mail and raise prices. In a recent Board of Governors meeting, DeJoy blamed inflation and proclaimed he will continue to raise postal rates to help pay off USPS’ outstanding debt.¹

DeJoy can’t cut his way out of debt. Providing less and doing it slower is not a model for success. Dejoy’s plan leads to the selling off of critical assets, closing locations, and privatization. It doesn’t have to be this way!

Congress has authorized the USPS to sell new products, like bus passes and fishing licenses, and offer new services like check cashing and wifi access. The USPS can make money providing these services, while also helping people with modest incomes. If DeJoy won’t do it, then the USPS Board can make him. Demand action now.

We can save the Postal Service from privatization, but it’s going to take all of us, working together, to get it done.
