** MAY NEWSLETTER
------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, John.

The past month has been a difficult one. We began the month of May with a truly unprecedented event, when a draft decision on the Dobbs v. Jackson Supreme Court case was leaked to the public. We confronted the very real possibility that SCOTUS stands poised to strike down Roe v. Wade and set back fundamental rights in this country by half a century.

More recently, the nation has suffered the three tragic mass murders that took place in the span of just two weeks, one a hate-fueled attack on a Black community in Buffalo, New York and another an attack on small, defenseless fourth grade children in a predominantly Hispanic community in South Texas. These senseless acts of violence were enabled by insufficient gun laws that allowed deeply disturbed individuals to turn weapons of war against ordinary civilians. These acts of gun violence against Black and Brown communities on opposite sides of the country also show us that while the country has evolved in many ways, we still have a long way to go in our pursuit of a greater union. While we mourn and recover from these acts, we must channel our grief into action.

It’s in moments like these that we have to remember why we continue to do this work. Why we vote and why we can’t give up the fight to elect candidates who will fight for a better nation: One where the right to bodily autonomy is guaranteed; an America where children don’t have to fear a massacre at their schools and Black people don’t have to fear hate-fueled gunmen while they’re buying groceries.

We can create that future, together, by voting for the officials who represent our values, and by doing everything we can to help them get elected. In this newsletter is some information about the upcoming June primary, our next MCYD meeting and upcoming Executive Board election.
NEW JERSEY PRIMARY ELECTION
The 2022 primary election will take place next Tuesday, June 7th. We hope you have a plan to go out and vote for Democrats up and down the ballot. Even if the primary elections in your town are uncontested, we encourage you to go out and vote anyway. A strong turnout on Primary Day can help increase the campaign’s morale and fundraising opportunities heading into the general election.

Polls will be open from 6 AM to 8 PM on Tuesday, June 7th.
