ACLU Supporter – Today marks the beginning of Pride Month. That means joy, celebration, remembrance – and, right now especially, it also means fighting with all we've got for the right to live freely and openly. After all, this month the Supreme Court will be handing down its ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. And if the recently leaked opinion from SCOTUS holds true, it will not only directly threaten our constitutional right to abortion – but could also put other rights at risk that the LGBTQ community has secured over decades. And as scary as that prospect is, we're also already amidst one of the most aggressive attacks on LGBTQ people – especially trans youth – that our country has ever seen. Over 300 anti-trans and anti-LGBTQ bills have been proposed in state legislatures this year alone – restricting access to gender-affirming health care for trans youth, preventing discussion of the existence of LGB or trans people in schools, and banning trans youth from school sports just to name a few. The ACLU is fighting back in state legislatures and courts every single day to stop these attacks. But the fact is, these young people are still having to endure far too much in the face of it all – which is why amidst so much hate and vitriol, it's just as crucial that they know they have our love and support. That's where we need the strength of our entire community – that's where we need you.
ACLU Supporter, remember: Pride has always been about our collective liberation. It was born out of the revolutionary spirit of trans people, particularly trans women of color, and that spirit continues now. In 2022, trans young people need our loud showing of support more than ever – to know that there are adults out there who love them exactly as they are and that there's an entire community fighting alongside them. Let's make sure that happens. Mark today with Pride – and action – by joining our pledge in support of trans youth now. And together, we'll make sure the rights and safety of all of us are protected now and always. Thank you, The ACLU Team |
