The grief and heartbreak of the last few weeks are still raw for me.

Two weeks ago, we all watched in horror as the news broke of a massacre at a grocery store in a predominantly African American neighborhood in Buffalo, NY. Perpetrated by a white supremacist, hate was the motivator, but the tool was an AR-15 style assault rifle.

And this past week, that terror and heartbreak was repeated when 19 students and 2 teachers were murdered by a gunman in Texas, again armed with an AR-15 style assault rifle.

Unfortunately, these feelings are all too familiar to Americans. But they don't have to be. We can't let up this time, we can't back down.

I'm going to do everything in my power to keep pushing lawmakers to come to the table and get something done about America's gun problem. Can I count on you to help me keep up the pressure? Add your name now and then take action with me. [link removed]

In the immediate aftermath of these shootings, we've heard all kinds of excuses and bad takes from the minority in our country that is obsessed with unlimited, unrestricted guns.

They've blamed mental illness, having too many doors, and unarmed teachers. Every other country in the world has these things, but what they don't have is access to unlimited, unrestricted guns.

We need the courage to act on these tragedies. As we continue mourning, I hope that lawmakers of conscience are finally shocked into doing something about the real problem. None of us can solve this problem alone. It will take a broad coalition of effort.

I'm running to lead Hennepin County into a brighter future, and we can't do that by continuing to ignore gun violence in our communities. Please, let me know I can count on you to stand with me in continuing our calls for action.
