Democracy Needs Us ✊🏿✊🏼✊🏾
Immigrant Heritage Month 2022 Email Banner

Hi John,

Today is the start of Immigrant Heritage and Pride Months.

I know that in the aftermath of the heartache and hate we have seen, marking these moments can seem superficial. Yet, as the poet Toi Derricotte reminds us, “Joy is an act of resistance.”

So let us resist.

This month, let us resist the racism that fueled the attacks in Buffalo, Atlanta, and countless other communities by celebrating our diversity and heritage. Let us resist the homophobia that endangers the rights of millions to live authentically by proudly showing up as our whole selves. And let us resist the erosion of our human rights by transforming representation and creating new policies that protect our communities.

Join us in our resistance and our joy by supporting NAL’s work to grow a bench of New American and LGBTQ+ leaders in office.

We know that the future of representation will be BIPOC and queer. And this year, as we celebrate over 10 years of NAL’s work to create a more inclusive democracy, we are thrilled to see the next cohorts of leaders organizing and running to create the change we need from Alaska to Georgia, Maine to Arizona, and everywhere in between.

Commemorate this legacy by donating $100, $75, $50, or $25 to NAL in honor of Immigrant Heritage and Pride Month.

Interested in doing even more? Then come together with the NAL Network on Tuesday, June 7th for a special virtual NALpista Happy Hour. Get to know the fierce leaders in the network, connect with fellow NALpistas in your area, and be inspired by stories of community-led change.

No matter how you join us, we hope you take a moment today to reflect on your own joy and part of our resistance movement. Your leadership and support is essential to creating a stronger democracy and inclusive country—we are grateful for you.

Yours in the fight,

Ghida Dagher
