Y'all, today is the last day of what was a terrible month in Texas.
We’ve seen what true leadership looks like - and the damage bad leaders can do.
After telling the world that 19 children had been killed, Greg Abbott attended a fundraiser 300 miles away, and then misled the press about the police response during the shooting.
Meanwhile Beto O’Rourke went to donate blood, met with families, and told Abbott to his face that the laws he had passed let this happen.
Ted Cruz tweeted his “thoughts and prayers,” showboated on stage in Uvalde, and then spoke at the NRA’s convention in Houston.
Lina Hidalgo immediately called for action to limit access to guns, and then protested outside the NRA’s convention.
Texas Republicans tried to change the subject by talking about doors, arming teachers, and other nonsense.
Texas Democrats called for an immediate special session to pass laws that would take assault rifles out of the hands of people like the killer in Uvalde.
This past week has, sadly, reminded us of the stakes in November. These aren’t just about political parties, these are about human lives. And right now, our elected officials are failing. Completely.
We have a chance — right now — to rewrite the next chapter.
