Dear Friend --
We have seen some pretty bad bills during our
time advocating for your values in the legislature. However, the
recently filed pro-abortion bill known as HB1126 seems to be in a
league of its own.
It is a bill that is so bad, it
makes you want to both cry and laugh.
HB1126 is
basically the NC abortionists’ plan for a post-Roe v. Wade North
Carolina. In short, the plan focuses on attacking Viagra, defunding
crisis pregnancy centers, and allowing abortions up
to 20 weeks, with major exceptions after 20
weeks.
However, the most ironic part is
something you may actually agree with: acknowledging that a child exists at the moment of
conception. In a section entitled “Child Support
Begins at Conception,” line 22 of HB1126 states:
“Child support ordered
under this section shall begin with the first month in which the child
was conceived,” and ”award child support retroactive to the first
month in which the child was conceived.”
The fact that the pro-abortion lobby and legislators cannot see the
grave irony of believing child support ought to begin at
conception—but that a child's life does not—would be funny were it not
so tragic.
North Carolina legislators have passed dozens of
restrictions on abortion since Republicans took control, but the
abortion industry has successfully challenged many of them in court. A
lawsuit two years ago lifted the 49-year-old ban on abortions after 20
weeks (the same one HB1126 would re-instate) and ordered abortion on
demand up to “viability” as determined by the abortionist. Another
lawsuit seeks to strike down almost all the other limitations on
abortion the General Assembly has passed and rule that our state
Constitution contains a right to abortion! What a ridiculous idea that
our founders contemplated a right to abortion when they passed our
Constitution.
Planned Parenthood, NARAL, the Abortion Rights
Federation, and their legislators want North Carolina to become a safe
haven for abortion in the South. Sadly, when Roe v. Wade is reversed,
it will become exactly that given the current state of the
law. Because three out of four of the states surrounding
North Carolina will either outlaw abortion altogether or stop it when
a heartbeat is detected, women from the states of South Carolina,
Georgia, Tennessee, and other states will pour over our borders to get
abortions.
Would you help us stop that from
happening?
We have been hard at work
since last year preparing to meet the challenge once Roe v. Wade is
overturned, and we are ready for this moment in
history. We must build consensus for the
strongest protections possible for unborn children and women in North
Carolina, and we need your help!
We have a lot of work
to do preparing our state for Roe v. Wade’s reversal. If you support
our continued work fighting against bills like HB1226, and fighting
for North Carolina's unborn, would
you consider making a needed end-of-month donation before MIDNIGHT
TONIGHT of $25, $50, $100, or more?
