Buried in the Democrats' passage of legislation gifting Massachusetts' driver's licenses to non-citizen illegal aliens was the torpedoing of a Republican-backed amendment that would have required state Registry of Motor Vehicles officials to share information with city and town clerks investigating instances of potential voter fraud.

Additionally, the Democrats rejected this and other amendments via "voice votes," essentially granting themselves anonymity and protecting themselves from accountability.

To summarize, Beacon Hill Democrats insist that this radical legislation will not lead to non-citizens illegally voting in Massachusetts elections, yet these same Democrats rejected (anonymously) a logical safeguard aimed at ensuring this won't happen.

We need a secretary of the commonwealth who will push back against this madness, and that's why we're calling on Republicans to support Rayla Campbell.

"As your next secretary of the state of Massachusetts, I will do everything in my power to make sure Democrats looking to undermine the integrity of our elections will be held accountable," Campbell told us this week. "I will proudly protect registered Massachusetts voters from having their voices diluted at the ballot box as a result of the Democrats' fraudulent schemes.

"I pledge to uphold the letter of the law, and I will approach this job with zero tolerance for the nonsense currently in play on Beacon Hill."

The Democrats' partisan powerplay to reward those living illegally in Massachusetts with state-issued driver's licenses is now a virtual certainty.

With a veto-proof majority in the state Legislature, the next steps are simply a formality.

We believe the public should be made aware that the Democrats overplayed their hand when they refused to consider a commonsense policy to ensure that non-citizens cannot affect the outcome of elections in Massachusetts.
