It started on a legal pad, handwritten every day from Family Research Council's old offices. Back then, what would eventually be called the Washington Update was simple: a few paragraphs of commentary about breaking news, sent by fax to supporters all across the country. It was FRC's way of using its unique presence on the ground in Washington to shape a national dialogue about the issues that mattered most -- faith, family, and freedom.

Times changed, and so did FRC. In the early 2000s, from our new headquarters, the fax was replaced by an email that grew to hundreds of thousands of subscribers. It became the flagship publication of FRC through six presidential administrations, countless Congresses, and even more political highs and lows.

Now, 30 years later, FRC is moving beyond the Washington Update, a fixture of trustworthy information from the nation's capital, to meet the needs of today. In conversations with many of you, the question I'm most frequently asked is: Where can I go for news? Starting tomorrow, June 1, FRC finally has an answer. Building on the long history of the Update and the tremendous reach we have with our daily national broadcast, "Washington Watch," we're proud to announce the next generation in FRC communications: our very own digital news outlet.

After months of preparation, FRC is ready to take our place on the wall and fill the growing void for news from a biblical worldview by launching a new site, The Washington Stand. In addition to commentary from names you know (and some we'll introduce you to), we've expanded our bench to include a team of reporters devoted to covering breaking news on the issues you care about most -- things like the education debate, life, religious freedom, sexuality, marriage, Big Business, censorship, and so much more. Our goal is to have a greater presence and be an even clearer voice for God's truth in the noise and confusion of this culture.

Join us, as we embark on this next chapter to proclaim faith, family, and freedom in the media -- and beyond. Look for the first edition of The Washington Stand to hit your inbox Wednesday morning.
