As a staff attorney at the Innocence Project, I’ve spent years fighting to win freedom for wrongfully convicted people whose innocence could be proven with DNA testing.
DNA testing can be expensive, ranging from a few hundred dollars to upwards of $50,000 for rounds of advanced testing on decades-old crime scene evidence. And we pay for it all because the Innocence Project is committed to finding the truth for our clients, no matter what it costs.
That’s why I’m reaching out to you today. For Giving Tuesday, a generous donor has offered to match all gifts to our DNA fund up to $100,000 starting now through Tuesday. We only have four days, and we need your support to take advantage of this incredible match opportunity.
Last year, the funds we raised for Giving Tuesday covered more than half the DNA testing expenses for our clients for the year. If we hit our goal of $100,000 by Tuesday and access the full match, we’ll have raised our entire annual budget for DNA testing — funds that will help our next innocent client clear their name and regain their freedom.
