Hi John,
From guns to abortion to climate to housing to policing to nearly everything else: Democrats winning the White House and Congress just isn't enough to make progress on the issues we care about.
We
need states and cities and counties and school boards in both red and blue communities — we
need to build long-term sustainable power.
Republicans didn't win their minority-rule-makes-us-feel-gaslit power overnight — it took decades. Fighting back and undoing the harm will also take decades.
It requires a complete reorientation of the way the Democratic Party prioritizes our communications and organizing investments.
To be clear: I hate this. I hate that so many people will suffer. I hate that it will all likely get worse before it can maybe get better and that we can't fix it with a billion dollars in a single election cycle. I hate the feeling of no one being in charge and no long-term plan.
But at the same time, I have seen what good people running and winning and leading locally can do. I'm lucky and grateful that the work Run for Something does is inherently optimistic:
We're building a new generation of leaders who bring a moral clarity to their public service.
But this change can only happen with your support. Chip in

or more now to elect leaders who understand the importance of taking action and fighting for a better future — not just in Congress but everywhere in America.

I find a lot of hope in the fact that over the last three weeks, thousands of people signed up with Run for Something to run for local office.
Instead of being demoralized, they said, "I'm ready to lead the fight forward."
There are no real conclusions here. I'm just grateful to everyone who's signed up to run for office, made a donation, or even liked a tweet for reminding me that while the present fucking sucks, maybe, just maybe, the future can be a little bit brighter.
Our diverse young progressive candidates cannot do this without your help. Support them with a donation today and create a better tomorrow.
Thank you,
