John,
The effects of the massacre of 19 children and two teachers at an elementary school in Texas are still rippling through the Uvalde community and the nation. Yet, there is little time to start to heal as mass shootings – 15 just this past week – continue to ravage communities across the country.
Mass shootings have infected all parts of American life, becoming synonymous with grocery shopping, going to the movies, or going to school. Tragedy after tragedy has happened in spaces and in communities that were once thought to be ‘safe’, but the harsh reality is that nowhere in America is safe as long as the gun violence epidemic rages on. Over 100 people will die each day that we do not act.
As a gun violence survivor, it’s hard to continue to watch these massacres happen, especially to children who are the same age as my youngest. It is hard to wrestle with my personal grief and trauma anew as I see so many people experiencing the loss that I did when my mother was shot and killed. It is hard to keep going some days, but I keep fighting because I know that we can change our country and stop more families from feeling this grief.
That’s why I’m coming to you today, John, As a gun violence survivor and proud member of a survivor-led organization, I’m asking you to fuel this fight toward change: Can you donate any amount you can right now and help us finally change this country? [[link removed]]
Change is possible if we all come together at this moment.
