** How the Sicangu Lakota Community Are Restoring Food Sovereignty and Health of the Prairie Rangeland

The Rosebud Sioux Tribe (RST), are striding towards the resurgence of their food sovereignty by re-allocating resources from intensive agricultural practices to traditional regenerative systems, with economic opportunities for tribal members to grow nutrient-dense foods locally. ** Foreign Investments Are Driving Human Rights Abuses, Pollution, and Biodiversity Loss in Honduras

Lenca communities in Honduras are protesting the continued destruction of their critical ecosystems by foreign-funded hydroelectric dams like La Aurora and Agua Zarca (in Tibucá), and the mining operations of Canadian-owned Aura Minerals, which continue to operate despite the new Xiomara Castro government declaring Honduras free of open-pit mining earlier this year. ** Climate Change Is Devastating Livestock in the Horn of Africa, Turning Pastoralists to Climate Refugees

In Sub-Saharan Africa, severe effects of climate change are wreaking havoc for tens of millions of people, bringing the longest drought in the region in nearly four decades, the failure of the last three rainy seasons in a row, violent flash floods, sand storms and ruined harvests. ** UPR Report Denounces Bolsonaro Government for Environmental and Human Rights Violations in Brazil

Brazil’s human rights record will be examined this November by the UN Human Rights Council at the Universal Periodic Review (UPR). In March 2022, Cultural Survival submitted a joint stakeholder report in collaboration with Comunidade Quilombola Rio dos Macacos, Munduruku Takuara community, Uka Institute, and Munduruku Institute focused on the situations of Munduruku Peoples and the Quilombola Rio dos Macacos community. Sámi Fishing Rights Recognized By Highest Court ([link removed])
The Sámi have a long tradition of salmon fishing. Recently, a high court in Finland ruled in favor of salmon fishing as part of Sámi culture. Aslat Holmberg from the Sámi Council tells us about the significance of the ruling.
